Blue Ridge Mountains

This trip is a really exciting prospect. The Blue Ridge Mountains are indescribably beautiful and offer such a wide variety of landscapes and photographic opportunities we will be hard pressed to fit it all in! To help make the trip ‘do-able’ we will be travelling along just under 400 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Parkway itself is a great ‘ride’ as it mostly runs right along the top of the ridge. Consequently the views are endless and there are ‘overlooks’ every few miles where we can stop and break our journey and simply take photos from the overlook or from the trails that run away from them.

The trip is timed for Autumn so that we will be able to capture the beautiful Autumn colour and hopefully get some nice misty mornings too!

You will often see range after range of blue mountains cascading away into the distance and from the top of Mount Mitchell and Grandfather mountain they are seemingly endless. Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi river at 6684 feet and is closely followed by Grandfather Mountain. Thankfully we can drive to the top of both of them and

then there are trails from both of them that provide additional photographic opportunities.

We will have plenty of opportunity to photograph rivers, lakes and waterfalls and there are also historic and scenic buildings along the way such as Mabry Mill and the spectacular Linville Viaduct.

We will be staying at lodges and hotels along the parkway all of which offer very comfortable quality accommodation.

Experience the wonderful Autumn Colour of the Blue Ridge - as one participant said "colour equal to New        England but with fabulous mountains too"

Just to say a very big thankyou for organising the trip-what a stunning location the Blue Ridge Mountains are! I left it a couple of days before I looked at my photographs and I am still amazed at how beautiful the location is-quite breathtaking and absolutely will stay in my mind for a very long time.I know how much effort you and Hazel put in to make a trip successful and it really was

a fantastic experience for us all. Again thank you so much and I am looking forward to Iceland in May! Barbara

I have been enjoying looking at everyone’s spectacular photos on the face book page. They are inspiring and thought provoking – lots of ideas of what it’s possible to achieve through the lens of a camera.

Altogether a very memorable time in the blue ridge mountains. Thank you very much for a super holiday. I hope you are not too exhausted by all the organising you had to do but your efforts made it a super photographic experience for us all. Cynthia

Just a note to say a big thank you to Cheryl for organising and leading this trip, and to all for your friendship. It was the most enjoyable photo trip I have been on and look forward to meeting you again at some point in the future. I am very happy with my results and will be posting some on Facebook and Flickr.

I would also like to say thanks to Cheryl and everyone in the group for making this such an enjoyable photo trip and experience. I look forward to seeing everyone's photos on Flickr & FB and will post some of my own in the next few weeks.

Many thanks again for organising and running a first class photo tour with just the right amount of professional input to keep us on the right track. I thought the photo venues and the accommodation were just right and I really enjoyed the company. Ian
